Our countries have many of their own issues that must be resolved, yes, but we still cannot blindly and numbly watch the inhumane treatment of the children, women, and men in Palestine.

With the third anniversary of our new nation approaching, what better way to commemorate our independence then by revisiting the prospect of peace and prosperity that was felt by many and beautifully documented in a series of photographs titled When Home is New by Sarah Elliott? These images are filled with a sense of compassion, sentimental longing, the promise of redemption and other positive sentiments that were unfortunately lost during the conflict that surfaced last year. Tensions will continue to run high, but the possibility of recovery relies on a conscious effort in overcoming tribalism from all of the parties involved. The reality of our current situation is grim, but at least these photographs allow us to reflect on a period of contentment, even if it was short-lived.
